Talalay Foam Explained Without Prejudice
Talalay foam mattresses are legendary for their durability and comfort. Back in the 60′s rubber mattresses (latex foam) were a big hit at the major department stores. Latex mattresses, made primarily with talalay foam, grabbed as much as 15% of the total mattress business back then. Today we are seeing the same excitement re-surging in the mattress industry once again in regards to these eco friendly beds.

What Exactly is Talalay Foam?
What is Talalay? It’s definitely difficult to say….pronounced Tal – a – lay. It’s also very difficult to produce. Talalay is the most sophisticated production method of latex foam for mattress cores and pillows. This eco-friendly process uses natural biodegradable ingredients that come from renewable resources, including natural latex, which is sustainably extracted from rubber trees.
Key: when purchasing a latex mattress or pillow, always ask if the mattress features Talalay latex at the very top in the comfort layers. Long story/short, Talalay foam is consistent, clean, and simply the best material you can rest your body on.
What About Natural Talalay Foam?
Talalay Foam is nature’s nighttime inspiration. Latex International’s Talalay latex, the sleep product industry’s highest quality, most consistent, breathable and resilient comfort material available in the world, is a natural, environmentally friendly product for mattresses and pillows. The Talalay foam process features natural, biodegradable ingredients that come from renewable resources and water-based raw materials: natural latex, air and water.
Natural latex foam is actually a rubber-based material that comes from the tropical hevea brasiliensis tree, which is harvested to produce a resilient, cushioning foam that instantly conforms to every body contour for optimal comfort and support.
Air is infused into the latex compound to create latex foam’s open cell structure that provides a cooler sleep surface.
Latex International washes every talalay foam core using a 5-stage washer to ensure purity.
So Which is Better For Me – Natural Talalay Foam or Blended?
Natural rubber latex is used to provide that great contouring feel. Man made latex (SBR) provides durability and helps in creating a product that is very resilient to body sets as it can be compressed over and over and will continue to provide showroom feel.
Wear and tear simulation testing shows blend superiority. 100% natural talalay foam cores experience 5 to 10% more mattress core height loss (i.e. body impressions) due to wear and tear than our blended Talalay and 2 to 3 times more loss (softening) due to repeated sitting and sleeping.
There really is no right or wrong choice here, both products offer superior relief from pressure points and the durability aspect goes in favor of the blended talalay foam. Although there are more chemicals used to produce the blended version, nothing toxic or harmful remains in the finished product after going through the freezing, then super heating, 5 stage washing and drying processes. Any way you slice it, talalay foam is THE superior mattress making component on earth.
